Long John Silver’s 200 Recap

MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY

Start: 5th | Finish: 7th | Driver Points: 9th | Owner Points: 10th

Race Recap: In a rain-shortened Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway, Matt DiBenedetto started fifth and ended up seventh, collecting valuable stage points along the way.

Just after the field received the command to start engines, the green flag was delayed initially due to lightning in the area. That lightning turned into a storm that included heavy rains that kept the race on hold for more than two hours past its scheduled start.

With the track almost dry, NASCAR officials instructed teams to mount their wet tires for a start on a damp race track. Once taking the green flag, drivers race the first ___ laps before the competition caution flew for controlled pit stops to change to slicks. During that first green flag run, the No. 25 truck was “super duper tight.”

Just a handful of laps made up the short green flag run to the end of stage one where DiBenedetto ended up eighth. But just as the field prepared to restart, light rain fell, bringing drivers down pit road for a short red flag before restarting once again.

Heavier rain loomed not too far from the track as the field ran the remainder of the stage to its completion and the halfway point of the race. Stage two ended under yellow with the No. 25 truck running ninth.

During stage three, DiBenedetto managed to a miss a pair of incidents involving other competitors nearby before the rains came once again. After a short time with the field sitting on pit road, NASCAR called the race 76 laps short of its official distance. DiBenedetto ended up seventh with another strong points day.
