Weather Guard Truck Race Recap

Bristol Motor Speedway

Start: 26th | Finish: 20th | Driver Points: 24th | Owner Points: 28th

Race Recap: Track position kept Ty Dillon mired deep in the field throughout the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ Weather Guard Truck Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Dillon qualified 26th and struggled with tight handling that got progressively worse further into the first two runs. Under the second caution a little past midway through stage one, crew chief Shane Wilson brought his driver down pit road for adjustments in an attempt to loosen up the No. 25 Rackley Roofing / W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet.

On the next green flag run, Dillon reported those adjustments made the handling condition worse, and under the stage one ending caution, once again more changes were made. Mired outside the top 20, Dillon ran a lap down for part of stage one and most of stage two.

After describing the handling as “numb” for a large portion of the race, Dillon made contact with another competitor and brought his wounded truck to the attention of his crew early in stage three. Fortunately, the handling wasn’t affected by the damage, and Dillon received the free pass under that yellow.

Because he was deep in the field, making up ground to the leaders proved difficult despite running top-10 lap times. By the time the final caution flag flew on lap 220, Dillon had once again gone a lap down to the leaders, so Wilson took a why not approach and made one more big swing at the setup in hopes of catching a free pass before the checkered flag.

Instead, the race ran green until the checkered flag after that final pit stop, but Dillon was able to make up a little more ground and finished 20th.
