News & Notes
Martinsville Team Stats: In five prior NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts shared by Josh Berry, Matt DiBenedetto, Ty Dillon and Dawson Sutton, Rackley W.A.R. drivers have combined for a 17.6 average finish. DiBenedetto scored the team’s best finish at the short track with a seventh-place result in 2023.
Sutton Martinsville Stats: This weekend will mark Sutton’s second start at Martinsville. His debut was the fourth of five races the rookie ran closing out the 2024 season. After starting 24th, Sutton reported a loose truck, but adjustments during stage one gave him the handling he needed. A slight air pressure adjustment late in stage three allowed him to run as high as 12th before Sutton settled into a 15th-place finish.
Last Race: When the Truck Series raced last at Homestead-Miami Speedway last Friday night, Sutton qualified 18th and struggled with a tight truck for much of the first stage. He also complained under the stage one caution about a lack of speed, however adjusting the line he raced in turns 1 and 2 made the difference as his straightaway speeds matched those of the leaders. The No. 26 team got bitten by pit strategy when a single-truck spin brought out the yellow before the whole field made its final pit stops. But a free pass put Sutton back on the lead laps, and while he gained a handful of positions late in the race after changing his line, Sutton recovered to a 23rd-place finish.
Points Update: Sutton remains 21st in the championship standings in a three-way tie with fellow rookies Frankie Muniz and Connor Mosack. He’s currently 113 points behind leader Corey Heim and 37 points behind Kaden Honeycutt, who sits 10th at the playoff cut line.
Rookie Standings: Sutton sits fourth in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings but is tied with Frankie Muniz and Connor Mosack. He’s currently three points behind Andres Perez de Lara and 30 behind rookie leader Giovanni Ruggiero
2025 Stats: 4 Starts, best finish 17th (Atlanta)
Inside the Helmet with Dawson Sutton
“Martinsville is definitely a fun track. We’ve had some good trucks there in the past, and I think we will be good this week. It will be fun to be back on a short track before we head to Bristol. I think things will go our way this race and we will park it in victory lane!”
