Kansas speedway
Start: 5th | Finish: 5th | Driver Points: 37th | Owner Points: 22nd
After taking over the No. 25 Rackley Roofing / W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet for the remainder of the 2024 Craftsman Truck Series season, Dawson Sutton made his third series start at Kansas Speedway Friday night.
Sutton snagged his career-best qualifying effort when he posted the fifth-quickest speed in qualifying after running 13th during the series’ lone practice session.
Once the green flag flew, Sutton wheeled the No. 25 Chevrolet through changing handling conditions that alternated between loose and tight as stage one progressed. Despite early race contact that saw Sutton clip the grass, he continued without any damage to finish stage one 13th.
Following a pit stop where crew chief Shane Wilson opted for a trackbar and slight air pressure adjustment, Sutton restarted stage two 27th and began his trek through the field. Stage two ran caution-free and another trackbar and air pressure adjustment was made to the No. 25 Chevrolet to tighten the handling.
A speeding penalty on pit road sent Sutton to the tail end of the longest line for the stage three restart but a combination of pit strategy and better handling allowed him to restart 18th following the third and final caution of the race.
As the rest of the field was forced to pit once more under green flag conditions, Sutton ran as high as third before settling into fifth when the checkered flag flew. The top five marks a career-best for the 18-year-old who will run the four remaining Truck Series races this season behind the wheel of the No. 25.
