Race Recap: Ty Dillon’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series return was cut short before it ever really started in the 2024 season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
After running third-quickest in the series’ lone practice session, Dillon qualified the No. 25 Rackley Roofing/W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet 28th. In his first start with Rackley W.A.R. since joining the team in the offseason, Dillon was caught up in lap 6 crash that involved 13 trucks. Unfortunately, the damage proved terminal and he was scored 35th.
“That was the wildest couple laps I’ve run,” Dillon said after emerging from the infield care center. “Everybody was all over the place not really having a plan, and our plan was to get our Rackley Roofing 50th Anniversary Silverado to the front.
“It was just so crazy, I don’t know who started it there. I thought I saved it coming across and it’s hard to dodge it all. These races are so short, you gotta get after it pretty quick. It’s unfortunate we got taken out, but just a small hiccup to start the year.”
