Dawson Sutton finished 17th in his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
After qualifying 15th without practice, Sutton struggled with his truck throughout the race. A caution-free stage one saw him drop outside the top 20. Crew chief Chad Kendrick made major adjustments to the No. 26 Rackley Roofing / W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet, hoping to give his driver better handling for stage two.
Stage two also ran caution-free and Sutton continued to struggle with handling. He finished stages one and two just outside the top 20 in 23rd and 22nd, respectively.
Shortly after stage three began, a single truck spin triggered a wreck that caught up a handful of trucks and ultimately led to a short red flag for cleanup. One more yellow around 30 laps to go reset the field and allowed Sutton to gain a little track position before settling to a 17th-place finish.

“Overall, it was just a disappointing day. We qualified decent [Friday] but fought the truck all race long from the drop of the green flag. Luckily, at the end, we were able to pick up a few spots to bring it home 17th. Looking forward to getting this thing right for Vegas.”
