Clean Harbors 250 Recap

Richmond Raceway

Start: 19th | Finish: 9th | Driver Points: 18th | Owner Points: 22nd

Ty Dillon matched his best finish this season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ Clean Harbors 250 at Richmond Raceway Saturday night.

The driver of the No. 25 Rackley Roofing / W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet qualified 19th for the Truck Series regular season finale and struggled with an extremely loose truck from the drop of the green flag. The first yellow with less than 20 laps remaining in stage one allowed crew chief Shane Wilson to throw an aggressive track bar adjustment at the truck in hopes of tightening it up.

At the end of stage one, Dillon ran 21st and brought his truck to the crew for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Because of the adjustments and the fresh tires, Dillon worked his way through the field to as high as ninth during stage two. A late-stage yellow and the subsequent decision to stay on track allowed him to lead four laps under the caution before dropping 21st by the end of stage two.

Another stop for four tires and fuel under the stage break set the field up for a 101-lap dash to the finish. Almost immediately after the field restarted to begin stage three, a multi-truck crash forced the yellow to be thrown, and while the No. 25 team was officially listed as involved, the truck suffered very little front-end damage.

After the restart following that incident, the race was slowed four more times before the checkered flag flew. When the dust settled, Dillon sat ninth, his second top 10 of the year. Just one year removed from its first playoff appearance, the No. 25 didn’t make the cut this time around and currently sits 18th in the points standings.
