Dawson Sutton finished 16th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series The Boys & Girls Club of the Blue Ridge 200 at Martinsville Speedway.
After qualifying 22nd, Sutton requested more rotation for the handling in the No. 26 Rackley Roofing / W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet Silverado. Stage one was slowed by a pair of cautions and Sutton ended it in 26th.
After four tires and fuel, stage two race caution free, but despite the risk of going a lap down, spotter Bruce Danz, Jr. coached Sutton to remain on the lead lap. Crew chief Chad Kendrick called for no pit stop under the stage break.
Stage three was slowed by a flurry of cautions, including one where Sutton and another competitor made contact. The damage to the No. 26 truck was minimal and Sutton was able to continue. A later concern about a possible blown tire popped up, but with no clear problem, Sutton stayed out and the truck settled. After running as high as 10th, he settled to a 16th-place finish and his best of the season.
Season Stats: 5 starts, best finish 16th (Martinsville)
Inside the Helmet with Dawson Sutton
“Martinsville was really good overall. We’ve made a lot of adjustments through the past few races. Getting to the first short track really fits my driving style. I feel like this team always runs well at short tracks. Going forward to Bristol and more short tracks like Rockingham and some of those other tracks, I think we’ll be really on our game. I’m looking forward to the future.”
