Dawson Sutton kicked off the 2025 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season with a 25th-place finish in the Fresh from Florida 250 at Daytona International Speedway.

A late afternoon thunderstorm Thursday afternoon forced the cancellation of the series’ lone practice session, so drivers’ first laps on the track came during Friday’s qualifying session. After two rounds, Sutton qualified the No. 26 Rackley Roofing / W.A.R. Shocks Chevrolet seventh.

Despite a pair of multi-truck incidents in stage one, Sutton remained inside the top 10 for much of the first 20 laps before settling into a 12th-place finish at the end of stage one. Sutton lost some ground on pit road before an uneventful stage two went caution free.

Just a few laps into stage three, another competitor suffered an engine failure right in front of the driver of the No. 26 Chevrolet. The oil dropped on the track caused Sutton to spin, and after determining the tires were up, he made a pit stop to check for damage from the spin. The penalty for pitting before pit road was open sent him to the tail end of the field.

Sutton started his climb through the field after the restart but inside 15 laps to go, he was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop for a flat right front. A speeding penalty and the pass through that followed left him 25th and two laps down when the checkered flag flew.

“I didn’t have much luck at New Smyrna during Speed Weeks, and I feel like it didn’t change much through the week. I had bad luck today but overall we’ll move on to Atlanta. We were competing in the front pack at the end there, but there was nothing we can do. Just bad luck. Hopefully we can get that out of the way and go contend for the win and have a good rest of the year.”
