Heart of America 200 Recap

KANSAS SPEEDWAY

Start: 18th | Finish: 29th | Driver Points: 10th | Owner Points: 12th

Race Recap: Matt DiBenedetto’s Craftsman Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway was cut short by a stage three crash and ended in a 29th-place finish.

After starting 18th, the driver of the No. 25 Rackley W.A.R. Chevrolet moved inside the top 15 by the middle point of stage one. A late-stage caution saw crew chief Chad Kendrick call his driver down pit road for four tires and fuel. Following pit stops, DiBenedetto restarted 18th with two laps remaining in stage one and ended the stage in 19th.

The rest of the field that didn’t pit under the late stage one caution pulled down pit road, shuffling the No. 25 to 13th for the stage two restart. Shortly after that restart, DiBenedetto climbed to 10th and hovered just outside the top 10 until the caution flew once again on lap 48.

This time, it was another trip down pit road for four tires, fuel and a small adjustment to loosen the handling. The changes proved beneficial as DiBenedetto climbed from 21st on the restart to 12th in just six laps for the end of stage two.

Another stage break round of pit stops saw most of the field pit, cycling DiBendetto to second for the stage three restart. He remained there through the following yellow and restarted second once again, but on this restart, the No. 25 was caught up in a five truck crash.

With heavy damage on both sides, DiBenedetto bought the truck to the attention of his crew on pit road. But despite the crew’s best efforts to make repairs and continue racing, the night ended with a 29th-place finish.
