Race Recap: Matt DiBenedetto scored a season-best 12th-place finish after 200 miles at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After running fifth-quickest in practice, the No. 25 rolled off the grid 19th, and the field quickly fanned out to three and four wide racing. The race ran caution-free for the first 20 laps before the lone yellow fell in the stage.
A strong restart after the first caution saw DiBenedetto finish out stage one in third. The crew made only minor adjustments to combat a slightly tight condition during the caution at the stage break.
Half of stage two was run under the yellow flag as four cautions flew during that 30 lap stage. With only short green flag runs, momentum was hard to come by throughout, however, DiBenedetto still climbed through the field to finish stage two in third.
In complete contrast with stage two, the entirety of stage three was run under green. After a handful of green flag laps, the driver reported the truck as “pretty good on the long run” and continued to work his way through the running order before reporting the handling had turned “just about a half-number tight.”
A 27-second green-flag pit stop cost DiBenedetto valuable track position, and after a spirited battle with the leader and eventual race winner, he fell a lap down where he remained until the checkered flag flew.
A pair of third-place stage finishes added valuable points to DiBenedetto’s season total after a rough outing in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway where he was caught up in two separate incidents in the rain-shortened event. Those stage points, combined with a 12th-place finish moved him up five positions in the championship standings to eighth.
Quote: “The Rackley Roofing Chevy with WAR shocks was really good. This truck was fast, had good handling all night and unloaded off the truck good. It just shows the effort of our team and all the effort that they put in over the offseason.
“I was really pleased with the truck. Finished third in the first stage, third in the second stage, wracked up points. Unfortunately, the last pit stop of the race was 27 seconds. We had a few hiccups and issues. Those things happened that hurt our day.
“We finished 12th, probably would have finished about seventh. Man, solid, solid day. I’m proud of the effort from the team.”
